Research

CTOR was founded in 2007 to establish and optimize translational research programs to advance Orthodontics treatment. Using our research paradigm, we have successfully translated basic science findings into 7 patents for orthodontics appliances.

It is in this spirit of inquiry and innovation that we are training future generations of orthodontists. Our students will be given foundational courses on experimental design, statistics, human subjects and animal protocols, and research ethics in their Translational Research courses and activities. More importantly, these scientific foundations are taught from the perspective of translational orthodontics research. The CTOR Academy faculty who teach and mentor our students in research have extensive real-world experience as clinician-scientists with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals and with numerous grants.

Our students are expected to conduct research at a level that will make them competitive for Student Research Awards at both the Orthodontics Research Group (ORG) of the International Association for Dental Research (IADR) and the American Association of Orthodontists (AAO) annual meetings.

Students are encouraged to submit their projects for publication in peer-reviewed orthodontics or dental research journals. We will also encourage students to pursue graduate-level education (Masters and PhD) in a variety of fields (including, but not limited to, Biomedical Engineering, Biomedical Sciences, Public Health, Business Administration, Hospital and Healthcare Administration), which will expand their sphere of influence as clinician-scientists. Students will receive their advanced research degree from Stevens Institute of Technology, a leading engineering university also located in Hoboken, New Jersey.
